Ransomware attacks are getting often these days, the global cyber attacks on Windows using the Wannacry and other ransomware are being sold on the dark web. Now according to report from Fortinet and Alien Vault – MacRansom and MacSpy (Two New Mac Ransomware were found).
MacRansom is hosted in a TOR network and given as RaaS(Ransomware-as-a-service) and it’s new that they had target Operating System other than Windows.
According to the post published in AlienVault,”MacSpy is advertised as the “most sophisticated Mac spyware ever”, with the low starting price of free and it can be said that MacSpy is one of the first seen for the OS X platform.”
At the end of May, these sites were launched by a cybercriminal or a group of criminals (currently name is unknown) launched MacSpy and MacRansom as “services”.
It was first spotted by Catalin cimpanu of the bleeping computer which he had explained in his post,”The pair is the work of the same malware developer, and the websites are almost identical if you’re not paying close attention.”
The sites run in a “closed” way, that if crooks need the malware he needs to contact the malware author personally to get the demo packages and negotiate the rates.
Even though there had been lots of ransomware like Tox and Shark still in the game, this two ransomware’s are completely new. “Even though Apple is improving its security but Mac users be cautious and should not be overconfident since they are using a Mac,” says Wardle.
